Celebrating Excellent Care at HOME!

Beebe Healthcare’s Home Care Services brings quality healthcare into the homes of area residents. Beebe team members provide high-tech care to patients who require short-term assistance after same-day or outpatient surgery. Many patients also benefit from intermittent services to prevent hospitalization by avoiding complications from a chronic condition. Home Care Services works closely with each patient and their doctor to develop and manage an individual plan of care. Fred Sellers of Millsboro made a generous donation and shared his story to honor his Beebe Home Care nurse, Jennifer Skelton.

“After the vascular procedure on my femoral artery, Dr. Claire Capobianco said to me, ‘Do you remember the tunnel that I told you may cause you to lose some toes? It’s gone. The procedure was successful and has improved the blood flow to your left foot and now the wound is healing.’ I was really happy to hear that because I’m really fond of my toes, all ten of them.

“Jennifer first came out to our home after my surgery when I had wound vacuums on. One really nice thing about Jen, she is on a first name basis with all of the folks in Dr. Capobianco’s and Dr. Katz’ office. She also has the cell phone numbers of the people working on Beebe’s Med/Surg floor. It seemed as if Jen came out with the entire hospital medicine cabinet with her, and everything she needed to help me take care of my wound. She was so pleasant and always so happy to see me. There are so many people at Beebe who are just the same. Jen started caring for me and knew all of the procedures. She knew everything about foot care, and all of the other sites from my surgery. She knew what to look for and how to treat everything. It was just wonderful.

“I had visits twice a week. Jen always made certain I had enough bandages until she came back. Then I developed a cellulitis on my left thigh that had to drain, and drain and drain and drain. It went from needing four or five bandage changes a day, down to three, then two, then one. Then, the day came when Jen said, ‘Fred, you won’t be needing my help much longer. This is healing very well.’ I have had other home health people from other providers, but Jennifer Skelton and the team from Beebe Healthcare Home Care Services was clearly the absolute best I have ever experienced. I was never rushed and she always wanted to do everything exactly right. Jen is an over achiever. She took as much time as she needed and gave as much time as I needed from her.”

Jen Skelton has worked for Beebe Healthcare for six years and added, “Working with Fred’s doctors in the past, I knew what his procedure needed in the way of follow up care. I told Fred his care was a two-way street. We were following the doctor’s plan of care together, it was a mutual effort. One of the beauties of Home Health is we can catch things and intervene early to avoid the patient having to return to the hospital. I use all of my experience from working on the Medical Surgical floor, in Wound Care and Nursing Assessment. I am also always able to reach out to Betsy Frederick, the Nurse Practitioner in Dr. Katz’s office. All of the home health nurses have so much experience and we have so many resources at our fingertips. We all work together to reach the best outcomes for our patients. I am so honored and must acknowledge this award has been earned by a terrific team of professionals who provide Beebe Home Care in our community.

“It’s through this collaboration, between all of our resources at Beebe, that I was always able to provide the best care for Fred. He was always so grateful. Going to Fred and Pat’s home was like visiting an oasis. It was always a pleasure because there was always wonderful conversation, and laughter; and laughter is always the best medicine.”
